Hi Grandeur Fam!
Let's have a quick discussion about how an algae peel works?
In order to dive into this we need to understand the basics of what constitutes an algae peel. An algae peel is 100% natural algae powder, sourced from European freshwater lakes in specific growth conditions. Algae powder consists of unique organic material with a needle-like structure called spicules which mimic that of the needles in a dermaroller or cartridge of a microneedling device, by piercing the epidermis to create tiny holes which will force your skin to stimulate it's healing process. This treatment aims to generate new collagen and skin tissue to smooth, firm, and tone skin. It also helps the skin reduce hyperpigmentation, melasma, acne and various other skin concerns.
But what causes the skin to peel?
Developed with dermatologists our Algae Peel is safe and ideal for all skin types (According to the Fitzpatrick Scale). The algae peel is a herbal peel that is massaged into the skin for a period of time. This massage may be applied with various pressures (Light, Medium, Intense), the skin then receives this peel and the microscopic spicules are pierced into the skin. As with any foreign object when ingested or applied to the skin topically, our body naturally reacts. This reaction is what causes the skin to 'peel' and varies across individuals, The peel is also unique to your skin condition at the time.
The general protocol of how to use is at the back of the sachet, however for professional use we provide Algae Peel Training in South Africa. The ratio of using this peel is 1:3, 5gram of Algae Peel Powder to 15ml of distilled water. There is also sufficient powder to achieve 2-3 facials (however we recommend once opened to use as soon as possible).
Our training also provides insight into acne treatments, pigmentation treatments and much more
What to expect when getting an algae peel?
- Tight, itchy, and sensitive skin (2-3 days)
- Slight skin flaking (especially after superficial peeling)
- More significant peeling (4-10 days after medium/deep peeling)
- Needle-like sensation (during and up to 48 hours post-treatment)
- Pink or red skin appearance (1-3 days)
- Increased local temperature up to 37°C in the treated area (24-48 hours)
- Hot, stinging sensation on the first day
Takeaway? Is an algae peel worth it?
I believe skincare is a unique journey to every individual and your skincare provider will advise the best course, however with the advanced range of treatments in the beauty industry there are many alternatives, microneedling being one option.
The algae peel is painful during application, and almost feels like shards of glass that are piercing into the skin, even though invisible to the naked eye, the feeling is very real. This can be uncomfortable to some, hence it is crucial that you engage with your client and ensure they understand the application process and what to expect. It is also imperative that you do a consult to ensure this peel is safe for your client.
Beauty hurts! Ouch, cliche but oh so true, this peel is one of the few algae peels that can be used on both face and body. The results are remarkable and worth the week of discomfort post treatment. When administered correctly the effects post treatment are incredible, revealing brighter more even toned radiant looking skin. It is imperative to note that not all will peel skin in the same manner, however end results of glowing skin are always guaranteed.
